leaving a legacy: Darlene Hoffenberg

This post is dedicated to retiring Caruso Music teacher, Darlene Hoffenberg. Darlene retires this June after 40 years in teaching. Darlene first started her teaching career in Lake Forest and Highland Park, but for the majority of her teaching career, she taught Music at Caruso Middle School in Deerfield.

The following clip (it is best viewed in the Firefox browser) is of our conversation about her teaching career and her time at Caruso.

We wish Darlene the best! It has been an honor to get to know her this year and I look forward to hearing about her next chapter!

If you would like to reach out to Darlene directly, please contact her at dhoffenberg@dps109.org.

  • Dear Ms. Hoffenberg,

I’ve only had you for one year, but I would like to thank you for providing me with so many new experiences. I enjoyed music class immensely and I loved taking part in the musical. Thank you so much.

    Sincerely,
    Kayla D.

  • I was fortunate to not only work with Mrs. Hoffenberg for the past fifteen years, but I also had her as my elementary and middle school music teacher growing up in Highland Park. Even way back then Mrs. Hoffenberg was directing, choreographing, writing and playing all the music for her productions. So many lives have been touched by such a warm and caring teacher. Best of luck to you! Stacey Max

  • We were so fortunate to work with Ms. Hoffenberg when she still directed Charisma. She was encouraging, funny, sweet, and cared so much about all of us. Every day we learned so much from her. We will never forget the impact she has had on our lives, and we will always remember the amazing memories we made in Charisma. We love you, and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

  • Dear Ms. Hoffenberg,

  • Dear Ms. Hoffenberg,

Thank you for being the best teacher I’ve ever had! You made music my favorite encore, and chorus so exciting, fun, and especially memorable. Without you, I don’t how Caruso will be next year. It just won’t be the same without your presence!

    Sincerely,
    Hina
